SUMMARY:John T. McDonald and How He Electrified His Farm in 1899
DESCRIPTION:John T. McDonald was a well-known progressive farmer on Elk Creek who is best remembered locally for devising a means of generating electricity for his farm in 1899\, more than 30 years before a utility electrified the valley. His farm was the first in the region\, and perhaps the state\, to have electricity. \nMeredith Historical Society received a grant from the Pomeroy Foundation to erect a New York State historical marker commemorating Mr. McDonald for this achievement. \nFrank is the author of a book entitled\, John T. McDonald: Meredith’s Legendary Farmer\, which will be available at this program.
