Rivers, Roads, Rails & Trails
August 23 @ 7:00 pm
By Ira McIntosh
Rivers, Roads, Rails, & Trails is a musical excursion tracing the travel of people and products around our area and beyond, from a time before the earliest roads in our region, through the rise and fall of railroading, on into the days of trucks and highways. You’ll be encouraged to sing along with old familiar folk songs and you just might learn some new ones; songs of railroaders, canallers, river travel, the high seas, perhaps even the high peaks of the Catskill Mountains or the bygone days of the Hudson Valley. In the hands of this seasoned performer, stories and songs come alive in a memorable experience that will keep your toes tapping and your smiles smiling!
Ira was born and raised in Delaware County, where many generations of his family have lived. As a child of a Catskill Mountain woodsman and a folklorist-ethnomusicologist, he has spent his life simmering in good old-time heritage. His work uses the arts of music and storytelling to bring history and environmental education alive in communities and classrooms across the state. He and his wife Laurie host programs, workshops, and concerts at camps, clubs, festivals, fairs, parks, schools, and libraries.
