DESCRIPTION:By Ryan Jones \nBefore New York became a leader in the fight against slavery\, it was firmly entrenched in the institution.  This presentation delves into New York City’s early history of slavery\, tracing its beginnings under Dutch rule\, its expansion under English  control\, and the events leading up to the 1712 slave rebellion.  Ryan is Education Coordinator at Hanford Mills and Adjunct Lecturer at SUNY Oneonta. He is also a historian and documentary film maker with Masters Degrees in both history and public history.  His research interests include slavery\, abolitionism\, and the Underground Railroad in New York. \nPrint
