John T. McDonald and How He Electrified His Farm in 1899
July 14 @ 2:00 pm
John T. McDonald was a well-known progressive farmer on Elk Creek who is best remembered locally for devising a means of generating electricity for his farm in 1899, more than 30 years before a utility electrified the valley. His farm was the first in the region, and perhaps the state, to have electricity.
Meredith Historical Society received a grant from the Pomeroy Foundation to erect a New York State historical marker commemorating Mr. McDonald for this achievement.
Frank is the author of a book entitled, John T. McDonald: Meredith’s Legendary Farmer, which will be available at this program.
