Meredith Historical Society has supported the restoration of the historic Meredith Square Cemetery for the past three years. This cemetery, formally established in 1816, contains the graves of many of our earliest settlers and  veterans of this country’s wars including several that fought in the Revolutionary War and a veteran of the French and Indian War in 1759. Of special interest are a number of unusual primitive headstones, some of which were carved by the itinerant carver known as Coffin Man or his apprentices. The restoration, which has been carried out by Dale and Tina Utter, is now nearly complete and ready for a public showing.

This program will consist of a self-guided tour of the cemetery.  Many of the headstones will be numbered and the attendees will receive a brochure providing interesting information about the individual buried there or about the headstone itself.
